The Managing Director of Schindler SA, is committed to the new working relationship with Moss Mashishi, Executive Chairman of Matemeku, a 100% black-owned group. After a 3-year process, Schindler has come on board to contribute to this dramatic transformation process because it is a business imperative and the BEE route is the way of empowering previously disadvantaged people into the employment market.
Matemeku was founded by Executive Chairman, Moss Mashishi, former Chief Executive of Moribo Leisure, South Africa Tourism and Johannesburg World Summit on Sustainable Development. Matemeku Group of investments is active in the areas of Tourism and Leisure, Telecommunications, Traffic Management Solutions, Properties and the Financial Sectors.
Schindler is the only multinational lift and escalator company to have a BEE Equity partner in place at the Organizational ownership level.
Schindler Lifts South Africa has an overall verified BEE Scorecard rating of an ‘A’. The rating confirms the company’s commitment to broad based transformation in South Africa and reflects the considerable progress made on this front. A rating of this nature is not just a ‘nice-to-have.’ It is essential for successful business in the new South Africa today and it has implications in many ways, not least of which is that, having set a high standard it is now necessary for Schindler to continue to build and improve yet further. The rating is in compliance with the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) code of good practice.
Schindler has a long-standing track record in Black advancement before BEE became an embedded part of South African business life. Schindler is therefore continuing a tradition and recognizes that the process is on-going.
Moreover, in the broader context Schindler is continuing affirmative advancement not only in line with BEE but also in terms of their annually updated employment equity planning.
